An Aluminum Oil Cooler (often referred to as a Bar-and-Plate Heat Exchanger) is the primary thermal management component for rotary screw compressors. Because aluminum has exceptional thermal conductivity and is lightweight, it is the industry standard for cooling both the compressor lubricant and the discharge air. In most modern industrial compressors, the oil cooler is part of a "Combi-Cooler"—a single aluminum block that houses two separate circuits: one for oil and one for compressed air (the aftercooler).
